13 June Reporting from the VI Contact Forum on Habitat Conservation in the Barents Region - Arkhangelsk, Russia
Dear colleagues
The Forum included sessions on boreal forests, wetlands and marine and coastal ecosystems conservation, and also, for the first time, two sessions devoted to exploring theSynergy of Spiritual and Natural Heritage, including ten presentations from which four were related to The Delos Initiative. This was possible mainly due to the efforts of our colleagues Alexander Davydov, from the Institute of Ecological problems in the North, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Arkhangelsk, and Yrjö Norokorpi, from Metsähallitus, Natural Heritage Services, Lapland region, Rovaniemi, Finland.
Because of the impact that the sessions on Synergy of Spiritual and Natural Heritage had, the Resolution of the VI Contact Forum includes a paragraph recommending the integration of cultural and spiritual values in protected areas, the application of the 2008 UNESCO-IUCN Guidelines on SNS, and supporting the Delos Initiative and its next workshop in Inari, Lapland, Finland. The Resolution was signed by the representatives of the four countries of the Barents Region.
The Proceedings, which include a one-page abstracts of all the presentations, area available in English and Russian. For more information you may visit:
