The Ecosystem Services Partnership

The Economics of the Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB)
This is a major international initiative to draw attention to the global economic benefits of biodiversity and highlight the costs of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation. The study addresses the challenges of valuing ecosystem services and aims to quantify the costs of inaction and examine the macroeconomic dimension of ecosystem services loss.

TEEB was initiated by the so-called 'Potsdam Initiative' for biodiversity (G8 + 5 Environmental Ministers) and is under the leadership of Pavan Sukhdev, a senior banker at Deutsche Bank and a Founder-Director of the ‘Green Accounting for Indian States Project’,with the support of the TEEB office in Bonn hosted by UNEP. Various EU governments and the European Commission provide funding and support for this study. The final results will be presented at the COP10 of the Biodiversity Convention (CBD) in Nagoya, Japan, in Oct. 2010.
