Training & Education

Within the ES-Partnership there is a huge and rapidly growing knowledge base on almost all aspects of ecosystem service science and practice. At the same time, there is an increasing demand from scientists, policy-makers and practitioners for clear educational material and training packages on ecosystem service assessment, valuation, mapping and modeling, trade-off analysis, planning and management, and financing instruments; actually all the main topics addressed by the Thematic Working Groups.

Aim of the ESP Service Team

The aim of this ESP SERVICE Team is to use the knowledge generated by the Thematic Working Groups and Biome Expert groups, and other ESP-activities, and translate that into educational material and training packages geared towards the different user-audiences.

ESP Service Team lead

NOTE: close collaboration should be established with the Young Ecosystem Services Scientist (YESS) group who could both provide input and ideas for education and training material and activities, and take part in, for example, Summer Schools and Marie Curie Training Sites.

Key initiatives supported by and/or related to ESP

Possible activities include:
  • Development of course material
  • Provide links to existing training/educational material
  • Organization of ‘Summer Schools’
  • Joint proposals for Marie Curie Training sites
These are just some first ideas and suggestions for ESP activities, or existing initiatives (including hyperlinks to useful websites) are very welcome. Please send your suggestions to the ESP Support Team.

Over time, the ‘vision’ is to link our education and training activities with our Network of Learning Sites where we can develop and test guidelines and toolkits for ecosystem services assessment and implementation.
