About the Platform
Costa Rica is one of the most biologically diverse places on earth and environmental degradation is a major threat to this country. Loss of biodiversity, deforestation, desertification, soil erosion, over fishing and pollution are the major environmental problems. To solve the problems and maintain biodiversity, the government of Costa Rica has designed a number of environmental programs in cooperation with foreign governments and related organisations. Those environmental programs and policies focus on increasing public awareness, developing a national strategy for protection of resources, offering incentives for proper sustainable use of biodiversity, and providing public and private sectors with information in conservation and sustainable development.
This Platform aims to bring together the different organizations working in this field in Costa Rica, to develop guidelines for Nature Valuation and Financing Mechanisms for a sustainable development in the region.
Functionality of this platform
The website will provide a portal function to organizations working in this field, related links and relevant literature. The site is interactive, meaning it is possible for visitors to download and upload information reports and other documents, reply to discussions on the discussion forum and generally provide input relevant to the Costa Rican National Platform.
