More information

The Ecosystem Services & Sustainable Management folder consists of the following:

Case Study Database:  This database allows you to  access information related to ongoing initiatives that link the valuation of ecosystem services  to sustainable management and decision-making.  The database also contains details such as the project description; location; ecosystem type; ecosystem services and values identified; project coordination and financing; and where to obtain further information.

Publication Database: This database provides an extensive list of literature related to all themes covered by the Nature Valuation & Financing Network . The subject areas covered are diverse and include current and emerging theoretical and conceptual developments  in ecosystem management as well as the practical application (operationalisation) of valuation methods and other relevant approaches.

News and Events: Link to relevant news, announcements, projects or vacancy postings and forthcoming events related to the sustainable management of ecosystem services.

Discussion Platform: a forum where interested members can share related information, comments, feedback or pose questions of their own related to the sustainable management of ecosystem services.

The IUCN's Commission on Ecosystem Management (IUCN-CEM) has five key themes related to Ecosystem Management:

Ecosystem ApproachEcosystem Restoration; Ecosystem IndicatorsEcosystem Management Tools and  Ecosystem Services.

Please note that the Nature Valuation & Financing network is primarily focusing on the role of  ecosystem services in nature valuation, financing and management. As a result, many of the publications and case studies accessible in the respective databases give primary importance to information related to ecosystem services. Publications and case studies related to the other Ecosystem Management (IUCN-CEM) themes are included when there is a link with ecosystem services.

This webpage is managed by Ivo Mulder and Matt Zylstra. Ivo has a background in Environmental Sciences at Wageningen University, with a special emphasis on environmental economics and natural resource management. His interests lie in identifying and developing instruments that will better incorporate environmental externalities, such as water, biodiveristy and carbon, into our economies. Like Ivo, Matt also completed his Master's in Environmental Sciences at Wageningen University. Matt has mainly specialised in applying ecosystem valuation and integrated assessment to natural resource management.  He has also recently studied how stakeholder perceptions can be utilised in developing suitable ecosystem-based indicators for marine protected areas, fisheries and other issues in coastal and marine management. Comments and suggestions are most welcome by correspondence to ivo.mulder@wur.nl and matt.zijlstra@wur.nl.
