Case Study Database (CaseBase)

The new NV&F case study database "CaseBase" was launched April 2007 and is now accessible online.

About NV&F CaseBase

CaseBase covers a wide range of ecosystem research and implementation areas such as:

Ecosystem Services, Ecosystem Valuation, Payments & Rewards for Environmental Services (PES) Ecosystem Approach, Financing Mechanisms for Ecosystem Management, Market-Based Instruments, Restoration of Natural Capital, Business & Biodiversity, Sacred & Natural Sites Management, Protected Areas and more...

Improving on the previous Excel format, CaseBase allows for easier searching and case retrieval. Most importantly, CaseBase gives you the opportunity to upload and edit your own cases with relevant information. In this sense, it encourages the sharing of results, best practices and lessons learned in order to facilitate information exchange in ecosystem management.

CaseBase builds on previous work undertaken by NV&F in facilitating information exchange through cataloguing and surveying ongoing and completed case studies in the thematic areas listed above. The database is equipped with a detailed easy-to-use search interface to help better retrieve the desired information.

Keeping up with rapid developments in ecosystem management is a difficult task! Whilst we have already located over 200 cases we know there are many more worthy studies out there which would no doubt aid progress in these areas. But we need your help to keep our "finger on the pulse" ...

Therefore we encourage and value your participation.

CaseBase
is designed to allow anyone to quickly enter the details of a study they have worked on or know about. It allows for authors to share “lessons learned” and other insights which pure desk research and surveys cannot find out. It provides features for information exchange which won't always be found in your standard publication.

We trust the information gained from a tool such as CaseBase will allow us to better shape future research directions in ecosystem management. Hopefully it will also aid in closing research-implementation gaps, identifying best practices, improving efficiency of related workshops and/or
avoiding scenarios that “reinvent the wheel”.

Questions or feedback are welcome at casebase@fsd.nl

Based on current trends and the outcomes of recent workshops, the Nature Valuation & Financing Network recognises the need to stimulate information exchange through integrated networks, platforms, databases etc. Therefore we encourage your feedback in helping us to provide a better 'streamlined' service to you as members - which can become a valuable asset for your daily work.

If you find this a useful tool then we kindly ask you to consider whether your organisation is able to support (financially or in-kind) further improvements to the online interface of the NV&F platform. Related enquiries can be directed to matt.zylstra@fsd.nl.
