Financial Strategies and Mechanisms for the Sustainable Use and Conservation of Forests in Latin America

Background

In 2005 the project “Estrategias y mecanismos financieros para la conservación y el uso sostenible de los bosques en América Latina” has started.  FAO, IUCN and CCAD, the Central American Commission for the Environment and Development, jointly implement the project with financial assistance from the Netherlands Government. 

 

The project has 2 main objectives:

·         To identify, analyse and disseminate in a participatory way the financial mechanisms to promote the sustainable use and conservation of forests in Latin America.

·         To increase the capacity of national forest programmes in Latin American countries to develop in a participatory way national strategies to finance sustainable forest management.

Mr. Eduardo Mansur, FAO Forestry Officer and project coordinator, will provide a briefing on the project’s approach, activities, experiences and results to date. The meeting is also seen as an opportunity to share information and experiences in the field of financial support to sustainable natural resources management. Experts who are working on similar initiatives are kindly requested to briefly present their work as well.
