| SELS (co)finances a number of projects that can be viewed here. Case study: Lankheet Waterpark ‘Het Lankheet’ is a unique project located on a rural estate on the border of the provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland where the estate management and researchers together with local stakeholders are realizing new and restoring traditional forms of land use. They are trying to find a balance between social and ecological sustainable land use types which are economically sound as well. These include surface water purification, water storage and energy production from non-food crops. On the estate land use is situated in a historical landscape where besides art and education social projects also play an role. After six years of research by Wageningen University and Plant Research International it has been shown that specially constructed reed filters can absorb nitrogen and phosphate from large quantities of surface water very efficiently.
