During the researchers` stay in Costa Rica, CiVi.net project partners held a press conference on June 17 with the Ministry of Environment. Dr. Bettina Matzdorf (ZALF), Dr. Bernardo Aguilar (NEO) and Dr. Dolf de Groot (FSD) presented and discussed the objectives and work in progress of CiVi.net with the participation of a representative of the Ministry of Environment, the French Ambassador and a representative of the Swiss Embassy.
Among others was highlighted the significant role which CiVi.net played for the establishment of a Vice-Ministry of the Ministry of Environment, which focus is on Blue Carbon. The vital role of mangrove forests for the global climate and Costa Rica`s biodiversity was stressed in this regard
On that occasion Dr. Dolf de Groot (FSD) gave a book on ecosystem services to the representative of the Ministry of Environment – reminding that he gave 25 years ago a book on ecosystem services to the former Minister of Environment in Costa Rica which might serve as an mental impact to Costa Rica`s successive strategy of using its natural resources and biodiversity in an sustainable way.
