The Foundation for Agricultural Development was created in 1991. It is a non-profit private foundation dedicated to human capacity building and science/technology research in the fields of agriculture and natural resources. It has a professional staff of more than 120 technical staff and awards monthly about 200 scholarships. Its annual budget is around 7 million US Dollars. It has research contracts and projects with private and public institutions.
Role in the project and previous experience:

FUNDAG will lead WP2 and will participate in WP3, WP4, WP5, WP6 and WP1.
FUNDAG has a long-term experience in co-operation with private enterprises which are related to sugarcane production with respect to defining the best crop cultivars and adaptation measures under different hydro-climatological conditions and environmental constraints. The research projects are mainly carried out in Brazil, but field trails are also been developed in Mexico, Peru and Angola. Related to public institutions one major project is related to hydro-meteorological monitoring and evaluation of extreme weather events on crops and water resources all over São Paulo State.
Most recently, FUNDAG has joined the scientific consortium of the EU-funded POLICYMIX project which deals with the assessment of the role of economic instruments in policy mixes for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services.
