The Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) is a not-for-profit research and consultancy foundation which aims to support the conservation and sustainable use of natural ecosystems by building knowledge and stimulating awareness of the many ways in which people benefit from natural ecosystems. FSD’s scientific assessments and ongoing research are utilized by a range of organizations and institutions as input into decision-making that strives for outcomes based on ecological integrity, social well-being and economic welfare. FSD provides institutional support to a number of ongoing activities including the Ecosystem Services Partnership, the Nature Valuation & Financing Network, the Natuurkalender (Nature’s Calendar), COST725 projects, TAIB and the EarthCollective network.
FSD will lead WP6 and participate in WP2 and WP3 and also in WP1, WP4 and WP5. The communication and dissemination of knowledge, ideas and project is directly related to the work in the other WPs and will involve the cooperation of all project participants. FSD has considerable experience with international research projects, both as project leader and project contributor. Most recent projects are the development of a database on ecosystem services for The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) study (www.teebweb.org) and an assessment of the economic effects of re-naturalization the Wester Schelde in the Netherlands for WWF The Netherlands.
